Casket maker, 51, rape little schoolgirl(see photo)
The police at the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island, western Nigeria, have arrested a 51-year old casket maker for having carnal knowledge of an 8-year old girl.
The alleged offence was committed by Kayode Michael at Odulami Street, Lagos Island, while the girl was returning from school.
Police alleged that the suspect was arrested following a complaint by the mother of the victim, a primary 3 pupil that her daughter told her that the suspect, Michael, who is their co-tenant waylaid her on her way from school, lured her to an alley along the street in the area and forcifully had sex with her.
She said that her daughter was rescued by residents in the area who heard her shouting for help with blood gushing out from her private part.
She further told the police that she rushed her daughter to a hospital where doctors confirmed that her daughter had been deflowered by the suspect who also inflicted severe injury on her private part.
During investigation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime that the devil pushed him to commit the crime.
He promised not to commit such crime again if the could set him free.
After investigation, the suspect, a resident of 42, Odulami Street, Lagos Island, was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrates’ court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, unlawful and indecent sexual assault on an eight-year old girl.
Counts 1 and 2 read: “That you, Kayode Michael, on 10 February, 2016 at 42, Odulami Street, Lagos Island did indecently deal with the victim, an eight-year old, by forcing her to remove her pants and lay on her.”
Police prosecutor, Inspector Feddy Asu, said in the charge No E/11/2016 that the offences the accused committed are punishable under sections 137 and 135(1) of the criminal law of Lagos State,2011.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court, and Magistrate Mrs O. A. Ogunbowale admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must owned a property on Lagos Island.
Ogunbowale directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the DPP’s office for advice on the mather.
She adjourned the case to 12 May, 2016 for mention, while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi prison pending when he will fulfil his bail conditions.
